A weekend in the test kitchen

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Today is beautiful outside, in stark contrast to the weather of the past few days (we’ve had boats wash ashore, roofs damaged, ferry sailings canceled, all due to the high winds). Yikes.

I’m going to try and get outdoors today, because I will be in my kitchen all weekend recipe testing and photographing. I’m going to be making:

  • • tomato, basil and goat cheese bruschetta (I watched Julie & Julia last weekend and can’t get the image of Amy Adams & the dude who plays her husband eating the most delicious looking bruschetta out of my head…and of course it looked delicious, it was styled by this woman!)
  • • a new soup (I love soup!); the recipe I’ve found is for a tomato & red pepper soup…maybe tomatoes will be my theme this weekend. (This is the answer to my dilemma: “What do I cook for 1 vegetarian (me), 2 people who will eat anything, and 1 who doesn’t like fish?)
  • • quinoa, but I’m still trying to find different ways to spice it up…this is in progress.
  • my sister gave me this recipe for Golden Trout which I need to shoot as part of a new project, so I might give that a whirl.
  • • and apparently kale is something I’m supposed to be paying attention to…I feel like I’ve been seeing it everywhere. Ok, 2 sites doesn’t count as ‘everywhere’, I realize this.

And here’s a little something I’ve been working on for a few weeks now…it’ll stay a secret for now, but I’ll be able to share more info soon.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Rounding Up the Week with JCP

Friday, February 19th, 2010

©2010jackieconnelly_tea@Tina_Inness and I had a great Firestarter session with Danielle LaPorte re: new foodie venture. I am definitely ‘whelmed’ (as opposed to overwhelmed…yup, you got it).

Chatted with 2 new awesome potential food photography clients.

Rocked virtual snowboarding at Live City Vancouver. Let me know if you beat 3300, I’ll meet you for a match.

Toured Sugar Studios, THEY Rep’s great new studio space for photographers in Vancouver.

Continued with organizations for bringing Heather Morton to Vancouver in March for a CAPIC event + portfolio consultations (I’m on the Board, you see). Can’t wait to meet her.

Worked with Robyn to refresh some spreadsheets and review some social media profiles.

Good week.

Adios for now,

Dining with a Food Blogger (funny stuff!)

Over the past few weeks I’ve been sent this link by a variety of people I know - a designer, my other half, a friend…and it’s made me laugh every time because it’s so very, very true.

Enjoy and Happy Friday!

Best wishes for 2010

Monday, January 4th, 2010

happynewyear_jackieconnellyI’ve been reading a lot of everyone’s New Years resolutions, their favourite parts, proudest accomplishments and major milestones from 2009. I certainly experienced some of my own in these departments, as well as some less than favourite parts, all of which I am going to quietly continue to mull over for another day until I firm up the things I am going to rock for 2010 (they’re pretty much all set - it’s just the Type A personality of mine that needs to read through them all yet again).

In the meantime, I’d like to wish you all the very best for 2010! I hope it’s full of new experiences, accomplishments, celebrations, and of course good food & drink with friends & family.

Cheers,

Jackie

Rounding Up the Week

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Got several of those nagging things on my To-Do list done this week, that always makes me feel like a small weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Met someone new and was inspired.

Met some great people here and here; lovely, down to earth folks to work with, thank you for your warm welcome and the Saltspring Island goat cheese (my favorite on the face of the earth).

Looking forward to kickin’ butt on the blackberry bushes this weekend.

Inspiring quote to round up the week:

” Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

Albert Einstein

Happy Friday everyone, enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

Monday is a good day of the week to see things in a new light

Monday, November 10th, 2008

A blog is a funny thing, I’ve decided. Some use a blog as a daily dumping ground for their personal thoughts and ramblings; others use their blog for the purpose of growing a group, or an organization of some sort; and others have goals in mind that include google rankings, linking to their website, and a boatload of other techy reasons.

I was listening to someone talk about those of us who use blogs to showcase our work and our clients - essentially we are showcasing ourselves - and his opinion was that we should also share our vision and our creative process alongside the work so our readers learn who we are not only as artists but as people. I wholeheartedly agree. My vision, values and more about my creative process will now be included with every photo-based post starting on Monday and I hope you find it interesting!
